This store is located on the pedestrian streets of Andador Guadalupe, in the city of San Cristobal de las Casas, just around the corner, and you only have to look at the front of the store to see that there is a designer hiding behind the scenes of this shop of Chiapas handicrafts. This is Gabrielja Borja, who owns three stores: Casa Textil, Folklora (two designer clothing stores) and Casa Folklora, which sells household items: cushions, cosmetics, blankets, fabrics and shawls and others Chiapas handicrafts.
The brand works in association with more than 20 different Mayan communities in the highlands of Chiapas, where women still use looms to make these unique handmade pieces. Gabriela assumes all the risks of the commercialization of the garments, since she pays on delivery (not when the pieces are sold) and provides the raw material needed to create the garments.

Antonio Suarez and Paulina Malacara are a couple who launched Táabal, a shop that aims to support local artisans by creating a kind of cooperative to ensure that the people they employ are treated with dignity for their work.
The idea came to them after noticing that too many local brands treat local artisans badly.
To show that they truly respect local work and to promote a responsible vision of partnership with local artisans, the Táabal brand is registered with the World Fair Trade Organization.
More than 126 artisans (87% of whom are women) work for this shop of Chiapas handicrafts and come mainly from the Zinacantán, San Andrés Larráinzar, Aldana, Huixtán, Aguacatenango, San Juan Chamula and Oxchuc communities.
Antonio and Paulina decided to print on the label the number of hours it takes to create the many textile products on sale in the shop, so that consumers can appreciate the value of the product in their hands.

San Cristóbal de Las Casas opened its own version of the Bon Marché in Paris by opening this colorful place, which offers solid options for eating, but also for shopping in the many shops that sell Mexican clothes or Chiapas handicrafts and objects.
For those who wish to find beautiful Chiapas handicrafts to offer, in this space located on the second floor of the plaza, you will find a very nice shop called Camino de los Altos.
Its owners are French and have been captivated by the amazing craftsmanship of Chiapas and have therefore decided to create their own brand with the support of the communities of the region.
Over the last few years they have worked with 160 women from the communities, and many of their clothes are exported to France.
A few streets from the center of Chiapa de Corzo is the workshop of a craftsman specialized in masks: Jorge Alberto Gonzalez. He mainly works with wood, but he also makes amber pieces on request.
Most of his work is sold to individuals, although some masks have also been exhibited outside the country, such as at the Museum of Anthropology in Vancouver.
Jorge is well known to mask collectors and has won countless awards organized by the Mexican government.
